The game for my friend with these system specs are crashing. He's on a laptop (Dell Inspiron 5150) and the game freezes randomly for no apparent reason. The game's music will continue to play non loop however.

Any ideas?

His laptop is a bit under the minimum specs.  If he's not already doing so, have him set all of the Effects to Low.  With only 512 MB of RAM, he's probably running out of memory.

Thats not it and I'll tell you why, I have had several of those crashes after long multi star games.
specs:
Windows XP
AMD Athlon X2 5200 Dual Core
2 Gigs of Ram(1 stick DDR2)
And a Nvidia 8400 Geforce GS(512mb).

My buddy is having similar problems... I don't remember his system specs, but it is an older computer (4+ years). The game has crashed 4-5 times, sometimes a few minutes into a game and sometimes an hour + into a game. It has been suggested that turning off all the effects would help, but he has yet to try it.

I'm hoping to get the problem solved so that we can waste a good 6 hours playing a co-op against 4 AIs...

Bump(its a pretty serious issue so I don't think anyone will mind).
